German (Ms. Griffin)

Commencing in late 2009, German has been offered to senior students as an after school activity. Taught by Ms. Niamh Griffin, all participating students have benefitted hugely from the exposure to German as a modern language and has eased the progression into Secondary level where a European language is a compulsary part of the curriculum.

We study the following topics in German: my family, school, numbers, my holidays and food. We also learn a little about the history and geography of Germany. At Christmas time we tasted speciality biscuits and cake. We also play games and sing songs in German.

Every Tuesday afternoon Fifth Class pupils are given the opportunity to learn French and discover French culture, through oral lessons, games, songs and a variety of interactive activities. The pupils are able to talk about themselves, their families and their interests (animals, sports.). The students have fun learning the language and love tasting some croissants and orangina!

Basketball (Ms S. Daly)

Basketball is one of the many sports we play here in Moyderwell Primary School. We offer basketball as an extra-curricular activity for children in fourth to sixth class. We are proud to have won many titles over the years.

Each year, the children in Moyderwell School participate in the Tralee Schools League and in other local blitz‘s occurring in the area. The children enjoy these opportunities thoroughly and gain invaluable game skills and experience.

Football

On Friday evenings after school, we have an after school club for boys in Third and Fourth Class to learn the skills of Gaeilic Foottball. With a huge tradition in the sport in Kerry, we hope that we are preparing some of the Kerry players of the future.
